Yay! Temp agency wonderfulness! Don't beleive them when they say "hiring"; apparently that means "waiting list". So, no job just yet, despite the 4+ hours I just spent playing monkey and putting nuts on bolts to prove I know how to use my fingers.

On a different note, I really don't get all the Memphis bitching I hear. Not just on the [livejournal.com profile] memphis_tn community today, but otherwise, continuously. Ever live in another city? It's exactly the same. People steal, rob, loot, plunder, vandalize, beg, and smoke crack everywhere, so when people say "That's Memphis", all I can think is "you're sheltered".

I'll be honest, though. There seems to be a heck of a lot more of it in Memphis compared to San Francisco (where I live now).

There's actually a website where you can compare crime and such between two cities. For it's size especially, there's really a lot of bad shit in Memphis.

San Fransciso vs. Memphis:
http://www.bestplaces.net/html/crimecompare3.asp?lcity=8483&rcity=10412&view=T

Philadelphia vs. Memphis:
http://www.bestplaces.net/html/crimecompare3.asp?lcity=10250&rcity=10412&view=T

San Francisco is near Memphis's size and has considerable lower crime rates. Philadelphia is TWICE its size and has slightly lower crime rates.

Memphis even beats out Camden, NJ in some areas:

Sure, crime happens everywhere, but Memphis has a metric fuckton of it.

Actually, while most bigger cities have the same problems, per capita, memphis goes have some of the worst crime in the nation. And not to mention, we have all the big city problems, without many of the perks.

I've been all over the country, and other than detriot and hollywood, it's one of the worst i've seen crime wise.

That's why I created [livejournal.com profile] memphis_alt (and OMG the DRAMA that stirred up! LOL!) There was too much BS and closed mindedness on the other comm and I wanted something more postive with no drama. I lived in Memphis all my life and I've traveled quite a bit and still feel home here. I did really fall in love with Key West and London the most of all the places I've traveled and enjoyed all the other places I've been...but this is my home sweet home.
Hope things are going well. Tell [livejournal.com profile] ink_ling I said hello... if you guys still remember me! We should all get together and hang out soon... I don't think I live to far from you guys (i'm in Cooper Young near Underground)

It was like that when I lived in Daytona, FL. And it was like that in Orlando, FL. And Savannah, GA. And Atlanta, GA(I got mugged there). And here in Dayton, OH. And from what I hear, in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Toledo, Ohio, as well as Detroit, Michigan are all riddled with Crime and other such badness.

And everywhere I go, I hear the same thing. "Why did you move HERE? This place is a black hole. Everyone that moves here gets stuck." I say Puh-shaw. If you're happy with yourself, you'll be happier with your surroundings. Accept that you live in a shit-hole and learn to look for the beauty in it. It's there, you've just got to find it.

All of the temp agencies and hiring firms I interviewed with turned out to be a waste of time, as well. I have yet to get a job through a third party hiring agency, and don't expect that to change any time soon.

I do honestly find downtown Memphis less inviting than some of the very shitty areas I've been to in New York City.

Thought this might be of use...

Wait. Your'e saying people are sheltered for thinking that other places arent as bad as Memphis? That's not sheltered, thats called hope. There are other cities where the ratio of bad to good is better, all depends on the needs and desires of the person. Personally, right now, Memphis is not as harmful as some other cities

No, I'm saying people are sheltered for speaking as if this is the only place it happens. Somebody gets their car broken into, and it's "Oh my god, Memphis sucks!"... uhh, no, the person who broke into your car sucks.

anonymous posting is really lame.
