May. 8th, 2003 12:30 pmWhen did you first connect ("go online"), and how?
In 1993, on a San Francisco BBS I found advertised in a computer magazine.
What was your first communications program?
QuickLink II Fax/Terminal Emulator. It did wierd shit with ANSI, and because of the status lines you couldn't turn off, you only had a 23 line display.
When did you first chat over the internet, and how?
Over the internet, specifically? Through a MajorBB IRC module, in 94. The very first IRC channel I ever joined happened to be the one I ended up a regular in 'till it died, #wicca. The first person I ever talked to there ripped me a new asshole, and later became a friend. :P
What chat type program(s) do you use now?
I use Yahoo!.. that's it though. Occasionally I'll log on to AIM and see if anyone I used to know is there.
Who was your first service provider?
A shell account stolen from the Univeristy of Memphis VAX.
Did you ever use AOL?
Newp.
Do you admit using AOL in public?
Didn't, so can't.
Who is your current ISP?
RoadRunner.
What was the first computer that you used to access the 'net?
A Tandy 1000 TL/2. It used the 286 instruction set, had 720k of RAM, a 30 meg hard drive, ran an OEM version of MSDOS 3.22, and stolen copy of DesqView.
Mmmm. Text-based DOS Web browsing.
What computer do you use to access the 'net today?
A 1.8ghz Pentium 3 with Win2k.
What was your first 'net handle?
Domino The Cat, which....
Did you use any other handles for any length of time? If so, what were they?
...was later shortened to Domino, which was modified to domino-, and then modified again to dom_ino, which is what you're reading me as now.
Changed a lot, huh?
What 'net handle do you normally use now?
dom_ino, mostly.
Are you active on any websites other than LJ? If you're willing to say, what ones?
Not really. We have a Yahoo group to talk about the sanctuary we're building, but that all happens through e-mail.
