hmm.
The fan in thie system's power source has been going out, and it was beginning to sound like a passenger plane passing overhead, so tonight I took it apart and cleaned it.
In a word... GROSS.
This thing was made in 97 (that answers your question about the warranty).. and the power source was full of the proof of that. (apparently, canned air isn't enough.) The fan had a layer of gunk around it that could probably have been a nice space for a garden.
Results: The PS fan now works properly. It sounds more like a distant lawnmower than a jet, and it stays at a constant speed. However, in the process I discovered that the CPU fan is completely dead. With a little help, it'll rotate two or three times, but then putter out.
That's actually the only real problem we have with this sytem. There's an occasional random bluescreen, but I think that's just DirectX being bitchy -- windowsupdate claims it needs to be updated. We still need to upgrade though... This thing's a p2-266. CPUs being cheap nowadays, it shouldn't be a big deal to find a replacement mobo/chip.

If you have a slot1 motherboard, I have two CPUs sitting around, one of which I could send you. It depends on whether or not your board will support one of them, or if you want to get a new motherboard to support it.
I have a PIII-1ghz, as well as a PIII-600. If either would work and you want it, let me know.

Unfortunately, neither would work -- this mobo will only take up to a p2-333. :P
The fan is screwed into the heatink, not in drilled holes, but just between the blades of the sink itself. It's leeetle.
