In obvious rebellion from the rest of my body, my right pinkie toe has only ever grown one hair.

It's turned silver.

Joe's old toe, we thought it had mold, but it was one silver hair or it's soul had grown cold.

I wonder if you could stretch the Western paradigm to include different body parts having their own souls. That'd be entirely too complicated, but fun, no? "My elbow is an asshat."
