Oh, and people are actually pissed that Fagonhisback Mountain didn't win Best Picture, even though it won three other prizes.

If you honestly think that it's a matter of progressive liberal politics whether or not a movie wins a stupid-ass commercially-driven piece of ugly snobbish metal on a wooden stand, you're a retard and you need to go back to Wal-Mart and complete your shopping experience.

Well, while I think that it may not be the most expedient politics, I do think that cultural politics are fundamentally important. Visibility in a highly public forum is, for a lot of reasons, important to grease other kinds of political wheels. It might be argued that it does the further reaching politics of changing minds ... not just laws, which will be broken.

Crash, though, also had a politically leftish lean ... as did, as far as I know, all the Best Picture nominees from this past year. Because of that, I don't think I'd try and get entrenchedly upset about Brokeback's not winning. There might be some homophobia behind such a decision, but it'd be really hard to prove.

See, bingo. It's gotten visibility out the ass. Getting mad and calling it homophobia because another film won is a knee-jerk reaction that doesn't seem to do with anything more than people's bias towards the movie.
