So, yes, the violin is here.

Kinda funny how I got it -- I was afraid I'd miss the delivery, being at work, and I would have. I had left a note offering my office's address as an alternate, if they were able to take hand-written notes (doubt it :P). However, while I was at work, the UPS guy came, and I asked if he had anything for my address -- bingo! He ran out to the truck to get it.

Kinda made me worry about UPS' security policy; could I ask for any address, confirm the name and take it? That's what I did with this. Sure, I signed for it, but I coulda scribbled "FUQ U" on there and it wouldn't have mattered.

Anyway, I got home later, got it set up, went to make my first attempt at tuning, and -sproing!- I broke the G-string. The only replacement string it came with is A. That made me sad.

You're gonna have a blast! I'm guessing from your posture and grip on the bow that you have played before? If not you're a fsckin NATURAL.

She's snickering over my shoulder about something like "He wouldn't look good in a G string anyway" but you can blow raspberries at her later, ok?

My dad used to be a pretty good viola player before he got Parkinsons and for a little while in school I played some violin myself... only lasting benefit for me is that I now know how to tune my mandolin. I'm lazy, I prefer something with frets so I dont need to worry about my hand positions so much.

I haven't really played before, no; my grandmother had a boyfriend for a long time (closest thing we had to a grandfather) and he used to let us diddle his fiddle from time to time; otherwise, just various occasions watching fiddlers and violinists at the intentional communities I hang out at.

Me? In a G-string? Nononobadbad. I never understood those things anyway. If you're gonna wear one of those, why not just go naked?
