Well, if you don't want to upgrade the CPU, fans are really cheap to replace. It's possible that if it's not working, the CPU is getting a little too hot, which is known to cause many a random BSOD.
If you have a slot1 motherboard, I have two CPUs sitting around, one of which I could send you. It depends on whether or not your board will support one of them, or if you want to get a new motherboard to support it.
I have a PIII-1ghz, as well as a PIII-600. If either would work and you want it, let me know.
